Duck Creek Aqueduct, also known as the Metamora or Whitewater Canal Aqueduct, carries the Whitewater Canal over Duck Creek at Metamora, Indiana. Built in 1846 after flooding destroyed an earlier aqueduct from the canal’s original construction, it is a single-span Burr through truss wooden aqueduct with an enclosed, covered-bridge appearance. An oak trough inside carries canal water, with valves and a spillway regulating its level. Strengthened in 1868, repaired in 1901, and restored after canal abandonment between 1946 and 1949, it remains exceptionally important as the only known surviving covered bridge aqueduct identified in historic United States records and is recognized as a National Historic Landmark.
