Early Cahuillan Indian clans dug an Indian well four hundred feet back of this site, and pioneer settlers, prospectors, and stage line passengers camped at the county well fifty feet back of this site. The county well, dug in 1870 and used until 1910, was for years the valley's only county established watering point.
