Jackson native Robert (Bob) LaZebnik commissioned the enormous plasticized concrete shoe Size 236 in 2018 to celebrate Miller's Shoe Parlor, a staple of downtown Jackson since 1913. LaZebnik, born in 1929, recalled being fitted for his first pair of high-top leather shoes at Millers and honored that memory with this work. Sculptor Joshua Diedrich recreated a woman's shoe found in the store. Charles A. Miller opened the business on the second floor of 143 W. Michigan Avenue, and the Shotwell family has owned and operated it since 1959. One of the last shoe parlors in town, the family business moved to its current location at 103 W. Michigan Avenue in 1976 and features American-made and custom footwear.
