White Bear Lake Civil War Memorial honors the defenders of the Union in the Civil War through the efforts of the Soldiers' Monument Association of White Bear and names the living and deceased members of E. B. Gibbs Post No. 76 G.A.R. when it was erected. The living members listed include Capt. William Gundlach of Co. A, 2nd Mich. Inft., who was in thirty seven engagements and spent seven months as a prisoner in Libby Prison, along with veterans from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Vermont, Iowa, Maine, Illinois, Connecticut, Michigan, and the U.S. Infantry. The deceased members named include veterans of infantry, cavalry, heavy artillery, engineers, rangers, and naval service, including Morris Eberhardt, who was killed in the Mexican War. The monument committee included representatives of the G.A.R., the Sons of Veterans, and the citizens, and the memorial was dedicated May 30, 1913. It also records battles and campaigns in which members of the post took part in the Eastern and Western armies, including Blackburn's Ford, Bull Run, Yorktown, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Petersburg, Pea Ridge, Shiloh, Fort Donaldson, Chickamauga, Vicksburg, Atlanta, Sherman's March to the Sea, and Lee's Surrender.
