Baker Mountain is a ridge in southeastern Hampshire County, West Virginia, running southwest to northeast between Yellow Spring and the Hardy County line, with the Cacapon River along its eastern side and the valley road between them. The communities of Capon Lake and Intermont lie at its foot on the Cacapon. The ridge has long been part of the Capon Valley’s timber history: its forests supplied wood for Baltimore and Ohio Railroad ties, and that trade helped bring the Winchester and Western Railroad through the valley in the 1920s to haul cut timber to Winchester, Virginia. Today it remains part of the region’s working landscape and historical geography.
