The Freedom Tree honors the Iranian hostages released on January 20, 1981, after 444 days in captivity. A proclamation and historical records are contained in a vault on this site. Eugene M. Hope was mayor, and the vault and stone were donated by Joseph A. Pagliaro Sr.
