Nature
San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden is an evolving one hundred fifty-acre garden in El Chorro Regional Park on California’s Central Coast, planned around the plant life of the world’s five Mediterranean climate regions: California, the Mediterranean Basin, Chile, South Africa, and Australia. Launched from an idea in 1989, it gained its site in 1993, opened a two-acre Preview Garden in 1997, and added an educational center in 2007. Its design features large regional landscape zones and thematic areas for economically important plants and demonstration gardens. When complete, it is intended to rank among the largest botanical gardens in the western United States, uniting landscape display, conservation, and education.
