Naya Nuki Peak is a 9,591-foot mountain in Montana’s Bridger Range, about 15 miles north of Bozeman in Gallatin National Forest and second in height only to nearby Sacagawea Peak. It is especially notable for its steep local relief, rising about 2,000 feet above both Fairy Lake and North Fork Brackett Creek in less than a mile. Its eastern and western slopes drain into different river systems. The name was officially adopted in 1987 after a proposal by Bozeman schoolchild Kristin Anderson, honoring Naya Nuki, a Shoshoni girl remembered as a friend of Sacagawea who, according to the account behind the name, escaped captivity and returned alone to her tribe.
