Penn-Roosevelt State Park is a small Pennsylvania park in southern Centre County that serves as an entry point to the much larger Rothrock State Forest. Its landscape reflects a longer history, from use by the Ona Jutta Hage or Juniata, through European settlement and intensive nineteenth-century logging, to reforestation after severe erosion and fires. During the Great Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps established Camp S-62 here, one of Pennsylvania’s few all-African-American segregated CCC camps, and its workers built the park’s dam, roads, and trails. Today the park centers on a small man-made lake and offers access to hiking, camping, and the surrounding forest.
