The Rockland Harbor Trail runs about 5.5 miles from beginning to end, linking many of the city's open spaces, parks, downtown, and waterfront historical sites. Along it, the Harbor Park area offers one of the best views of Rockland Harbor and includes the public landing, the Harbormaster office, and the Rockland-Thomaston Chamber of Commerce. In 1935, the park was transformed from the city dump into a public park. The W.P.A. provided labor, materials were donated for the seawall and landing, the Rockland-Rockport Lime Company donated the steel bridge that forms part of the pier, and the Rockland Yacht Club donated the building that serves as the Chamber of Commerce headquarters and the Harbormaster office. Harbor Park is also a place for relaxation and the site of multiple summer festivals.
