The William R. Heath House in Buffalo, New York, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built from 1903 to 1905, grew from his early work in the city through the Larkin Company and connections among William Heath, Darwin D. Martin, and the Roycroft circle. On a narrow corner lot at Soldiers Place and Bird Avenue, Wright adapted Prairie School design to an exposed urban site by raising the house on a terrace, screening views, and orienting major rooms toward the circle. Its dark red brick exterior, broad porch, art-glass windows, and strong horizontal lines made it an important Buffalo work and a forerunner of his later Robie House.
