FBI Special Agent Terry Ray Anderson, who lived from 1924 to 1966, was shot and killed on May 17, 1966, while searching in rugged mountain terrain near Shade Gap, Pennsylvania, for kidnap victim Peggy Ann Bradnick, a 17-year-old girl abducted and held captive for seven days by William Hollenbaugh, also known as “Mountain Man.” Anderson was shot while he and tracking dogs were pursuing the fugitive. The victim was rescued, and Hollenbaugh was killed by a Pennsylvania state policeman. As of 2011, thirty-six FBI agents had been killed as a result of adversarial action, including 34 men and 2 women.
