Tinkham Mountain is an 8,447-foot peak in Montana’s Glacier National Park, within the Lewis Range of the Rocky Mountains in the northern United States. Its name was officially adopted in 1929 by the United States Board on Geographic Names to honor Lieutenant Abiel W. Tinkham, who was recognized as the first white man to cross the Continental Divide in the area that later became the park. The mountain’s significance lies both in its place within Glacier’s rugged landscape and in the commemorative naming that links it to early travel across this part of the divide.
