Mount Morgan, an 8,781-foot peak in Glacier National Park’s Lewis Range, rises on the Continental Divide above Oldman Lake in Montana. Like many mountains in the park, it is made of sedimentary rock deposited in shallow seas from the Precambrian through the Jurassic. Its form reflects the Lewis Overthrust, a major geologic event that began about 170 million years ago and carried a massive slab of older Precambrian rock over younger Cretaceous rock. The mountain also stands in an alpine subarctic climate zone, where high elevation brings year-round precipitation, snowy winters, cool to warm summers, and severe winter cold with dangerous wind chills.
