Trinity Alps Wilderness
Nature
The Trinity Alps Wilderness is a vast protected mountain region in northern California within the Klamath Mountains, encompassing more than 537,000 acres of rugged peaks, alpine lakes, forests, and rivers. Its eastern high country includes glaciated granite and ultramafic summits known as the White, Red, and Green Trinities, with Thompson Peak as the highest point. The area is especially significant for its unusual botanical diversity, where Sierra Nevada flora grows surprisingly close to the Pacific. It also supports abundant wildlife, trout streams, migratory fish, extensive hiking trails, climbing areas, and remnants of gold mining and fire lookouts, while remaining largely remote and lightly visited.
