Orinda’s Village District was the town’s first hub. It developed in the late 19th century when homes were built on the surrounding ranches by the de Laveagas, Miners, Sullivans, and Wagners. Public buildings first appeared there in the early 20th century, making it a destination for outsiders. It remains a focal point, with the civic center still there today.
