Rainbow Glacier is an alpine glacier in Montana’s Glacier National Park, immediately east of Rainbow Peak. Lying between about 8,000 and 8,500 feet in elevation, it covers roughly 287 acres. Visible crevasses in satellite imagery show that its ice is still active and moving. Unlike many other glaciers in the park, it has retreated only modestly in recent decades, losing just over 9 percent of its area between 1966 and 2005. It remains one of the park’s named glaciers and part of the broader glacial landscape that defines Glacier National Park.
