The Bradenton Kiwanis Club was chartered on August 22, 1922, as the Manatee River Kiwanis Club and later became the Kiwanis Club of Bradenton. Its founding members first met in June 1922 to organize the club, and its first luncheon meeting was held at noon on Tuesday, September 5, 1922, in the dining room of the Juplinor Hotel at 435 12th Street West in Bradentown. The club met in various locations until 1953, when it moved into Kiwanis Hall at the corner of 14th Street and 21st Avenue West, where it remained until 2013, when it moved to the Manatee Performing Arts Center. In 1936, under the leadership of Dan Blalock, Sr., the club constructed the Kiwanis Trailer Park to attract winter visitors to Bradenton and provide a place for travelers with trailers to stay for $1.50 a week. The park generated revenue for community projects and promoted local business. By 1950, 1,190 lots filled the grounds, making it the largest trailer park in the world. By 1966, the club reduced the number of spaces, enlarged individual lots, and created sites for mobile homes. After using the park's profits for community service and capital improvement projects throughout Bradenton and Manatee County, investing millions of dollars in local activities and organizations, the club sold the park to residents in 1996 and established the Bradenton Kiwanis Foundation to continue its work in the community.
