Bear Mountain is a summit in the Appalachian foothills southwest of Waleska in north Georgia. Rising 2,307 feet, it is the highest point in Cherokee County and stands prominently above Lake Arrowhead, far below to the east-southeast, while the Bartow-Cherokee county line passes just west of it. In addition to its striking topography, the mountain has long been important for communications. It serves as a broadcast site for the Atlanta media region, carrying the tower for WPXA-TV and having also hosted FM facilities, including a translator for Waleska and an earlier transmission site for WCHK-FM. It remains both a local landmark and a practical communications high point.
