Leif Erikson was identified here as the discoverer of America in 1000 A.D. The work honoring him was sponsored and erected by the Norwegian American League of Duluth, Minnesota and by popular subscription, presented to the City of Duluth, Minnesota on August 25, 1956, and designed and executed by sculptor John Karl Daniels.
