Pauliena Lafuze, a century old in 2005, had spent decades caring for the Lake Arrowhead forest she loved, even as she saw many of its trees lost to beetles and fire. A member of the Lake Arrowhead Woman's Club since the 1930's, she helped restore Switzer Park many times after fires and other natural events. On April 9, 2005, she planted trees to help Switzer Park recover from the 2003 Old Fire, continuing a lifelong effort to conserve and restore this forest.
