Chiricahua National Forest was a federal forest in southeastern Arizona centered on part of the Chiricahua Mountains, one of the Madrean Sky Islands. Established as the Chiricahua Forest Reserve on July 1, 1902, with 169,600 acres, it became a national forest in 1907 after federal forest administration passed to the U.S. Forest Service. Its boundaries grew in 1908 when it absorbed Peloncillo National Forest, including land in Hidalgo County, New Mexico. In 1917 it was absorbed into Coronado National Forest and ceased to exist as a separate administrative unit. Part of its former land later became Chiricahua National Monument in 1924.
