James L. Killen, Jr. and Jesse S. Mills, Rockdale boys, died in action in the World War in 1918 and were remembered by their neighbors of Aston and Middletown Townships. A roll of honor also recognized members of the community who patriotically responded to their country's call in defense of the liberties of mankind. Their service was linked to the ideals of their country in words attributed to Woodrow Wilson in 1918, and the memorial was erected by the Glen Riddle Branch of the Emergency Aid of Pennsylvania.
