William Penn granted this land to Thomas Minshall in 1681, and it remained continuously in the same family until Laura Tyler left it as a memorial to her husband, John J. Tyler. It became known for its unusual trees, planted from 1840 to 1860 by Minshall and Jacob Painter, and is open to the public.
