The 32nd Division served in World War I from 1917 to 1919 and in World War II from 1940 to 1946, with campaigns and service at Tuscania, Buna, Haute-Alsace, Saidor, Aisne-Marne, Aitape, Oise-Aisne, Driniumor, Morotia, Meuse-Argonne, Leyte, Luzon, Africa, Sicily, Italy, Germany, and Japan, including detached units and Army of Occupation duty, and it honored its dead as "Les Terribles."
