Judge Charles H. Wisner, a prominent Flint citizen and tinkerer, built this Italianate carriage barn in 1878 to house a few horses and carriages at his residence on the corner of East Court and Lapeer Streets in Flint. The son of Moses Wisner, the twelfth governor of Michigan, he later built the first automobile ever constructed in Flint, the "Buzz Wagon," but although he made three different models, he was unsuccessful in getting any of them manufactured. Typical of carriage barns of the era, the building is also important for its connection to Judge Wisner and Flint's development as a vehicle city. It was saved from the path of Interstate 475 construction across Flint and moved to Crossroads Village in 1970.
