On Aug. 3, 1779, Gen. John Sullivan’s army camped by the river at its third camp from Fort Wyoming during the Clinton-Sullivan campaign, which ended in the rout of the Six Nations Iroquois and eliminated the Tory-Indian menace on the frontier.
