James Tarwater Wright, Scout master Charles Fred Burnett, James Edward Burnett, Roy Paul Green, James Clarence Hill, Woodrow Wilson Kerr, Lawrence Nedra Montgomery, and Jack Acuff Shamhart were the scoutmaster and scouts of Troop 45 of Rockwood, Tennessee, Boy Scouts of America, who died as heroes in a flood at this point on March 23, 1929. The Society of Colonial Wars in the state of Tennessee erected this memorial, and the scoutmaster was a charter member of that society.
