Palms Book State Park is a 388-acre nature preserve in Michigan’s eastern Upper Peninsula, centered on Kitch-iti-kipi, the Big Spring, with additional frontage on Indian Lake. Created in 1926 after the Palms and Book Land Company sold land to the state under conditions that preserved the company’s name and barred camping, the park also benefited from a 90-acre parcel arranged for sale by John I. Bellaire for $10. In the 1930s, Civilian Conservation Corps crews built early visitor facilities. The spring’s clear, constantly flowing waters, steady temperature, and visible currents have long made the site a place of wonder and a notable protected natural feature.
