Colonel Peter Lamar, born October 1, 1786, and died February 6, 1847, was an early settler of Lincolnton who donated land for the first courthouse and jail square and in 1823 gave 3 acres for religious and educational purposes. Also associated with this family cemetery are Sarah Cobb Benning Lamar, born February 13, 1792, and died November 16, 1848; Doctor Ezekiel Lamar, born in 1799 and died May 24, 1845; Susan Savannah Lamar, born September 26, 1829, and died February 15, 1856; and Mrs. Jane P. Groce, born May 27, 1823, and died August 1, 1841.
