Completed in 1868 by San Francisco financier William Chapman Ralston and incorporating Count Cipriani’s earlier villa, this redwood mansion became a symbol of the extravagance of California's silver age. Its enlarged design and mirrored ballroom anticipated features later incorporated into Ralston's Palace Hotel of San Francisco.
