The Story of Stassi's 4th Ward Tavern
History
8
The history of 4th Ward Tavern reaches back to Marysville's first years, when one of the city's several fire departments was built on this site in 1861. What happened to that building is unclear, but the current building was erected in 1870 as a hotel for Western Pacific railroad workers. It operated as a fully functional hotel with 10 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bar, and it had no running plumbing until the 1900's. In 1904, for voting purposes, it was known as Building 91 of the 4th Ward, or the 4th Ward Tavern. Bob and Sam Stassi bought the business in 1952 and added the Stassi name. In 1991, Roy Newlove bought the business. In May 2014, local fireman Brad Hudson bought it with plans to honor the history of the building and the town.
