During the American Revolution, Cornwallis's troops on the way to the Battle of Guilford Court House took over the mill to grind meal for their men. In 1822, Joel Saunders moved it to its present location and enlarged it. It was commonly known as The Old Mill of Guilford and was owned by the families of Dillon, Brittain, Hendricks, Saunders, Stafford, Bailes, Blalock, and Lowery.
