Irish folklore holds that anyone who kisses the Blarney Stone, also known as the Stone of Eloquence, will never be at a loss for words. In Shamrock, Texas, some locals say their luck improved after kissing a section of the Blarney Castle stone there. In the late 1950s, Shamrock leaders persuaded Ireland to ship a section of the famous stone to their city in order to promote Ireland and the legend of its mystical stone in that part of the world. Because some factions in Ireland opposed any part of the stone leaving the country, the piece sent to Shamrock arrived in 1959 under guard and in an armored truck. The origin of the stone at Ireland's Blarney Castle remains uncertain, with traditions and theories linking it to Jacob's pillow brought by the prophet Jeremiah, to a stone brought to Ireland after the Crusades, or to the stone struck by Moses that gushed water and was said to possess mystical powers.
