Rondout Light stands at Kingston, New York, on the west side of the Hudson River where Rondout Creek meets the river, continuing a line of navigational aids that guided traffic into the creek. A wooden lighthouse first marked the entrance in 1837, followed by a bluestone replacement in 1867 and the present structure in 1915. The earlier bluestone tower was later abandoned and demolished, leaving only its circular stone foundation. Automated in 1954, the current light was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Transferred from the Coast Guard to the City of Kingston in 2002, it is now managed by the Hudson River Maritime Museum.
