Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver occupies part of the former Lowry Air Force Base and preserves the history of Lowry’s operations alongside wider developments in aviation and spaceflight. Lowry served from 1937 to 1994 as a major technical training center, graduating more than 1.1 million military personnel and supporting U.S. efforts in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War. Founded after Hangar 1 was transferred in 1994, the museum displays about 50 aircraft and other aerospace artifacts, maintains major archival and library holdings, and advances education through STEM programs, pilot training pathways, scholarships, and exhibits focused on Colorado’s aviation heritage.
