Eagle Crags is a 5,496-foot summit in California’s Mojave Desert within Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, making it inaccessible to the public. Part of the Eagle Crags Volcanic Field, it has been studied for its volcanic history and complex geology, including Mesozoic granites, Tertiary volcanic rocks, pyroclastic flows, Quaternary alluvium, and especially prominent felsic volcanic rocks. Ephemeral nearby hot springs have suggested possible geothermal potential. The mountain also forms part of desert habitat used by bighorn sheep; desert bighorn were brought there in the 1980s, and a 2005 study considered introducing additional ewes. It remains chiefly known through geological mapping and research.
