Black Mountain Wilderness
Nature
Black Mountain Wilderness is a protected wilderness area in California’s Mojave Desert, southwest of the Tiefort Mountains and Fort Irwin. Established in 1994 and managed by the Bureau of Land Management, it takes its name from Black Mountain, a mesa in the northwestern part of the area that rises 3,941 feet above the surrounding desert. Its remote, open landscape supports wildlife including golden eagles and prairie falcons.
