Hancock County's Civil War memorial was dedicated to the perpetual memory of the defenders of the Union, bearing the words 1861 - Veteran - 1866 Appomattox and a tribute that a sorrowing nation would silently weep for its fallen and strew spring's brightest flowers with gratitude over those who cherished the red, white, and blue. It was erected by the citizens of Hancock County on May 30th, 1886, and records the names of Union defenders from Cedar Creek, Winchester, and Piedmont, with the work credited to Monumental Bronze Co. of Bridgeport, Connecticut.
