In Dumfries, Virginia, the Weems–Botts House anchors a museum that interprets the town’s history and the people tied to the building. Originally the vestry for Quantico Church, it later became a residence and workplace. Mason Locke "Parson" Weems bought it in 1798 and, during his ownership, wrote the first biography of George Washington, helping spread the famous cherry tree story. After he sold it in 1802, attorney Benjamin Botts used it as his law office before later becoming one of Aaron Burr’s defense lawyers. Restored in 1975, the property now serves as a museum with research and memorial features nearby.
