The University of Alabama Arboretum in Tuscaloosa, part of the University of Alabama Museums, is a 60-acre public garden and study landscape centered on Alabama’s native plants and animals. Its 2.5 miles of walking trails wind through native piney woods and oak-hickory climax forest, alongside specialized areas such as a wildflower garden with more than 250 species, an experimental garden, a bog garden, ornamental plantings, an open-air pavilion, and a children’s garden. Two greenhouses hold orchids, cacti, and tropical plants. Open daily without charge, it combines native habitats, cultivated displays, and accessible trails as both a peaceful green space and a center for botanical education.
