The Methodist Episcopal congregation held meetings in the Saratoga Village area, then called McCarthyville, as early as 1852, but this church was not built until 1895. Its belfry with the steeple was added in 1903. The building ceased to function as a church in 1924 when its small congregation merged with Saratoga Federated Church. It was then sold to acclaimed artist Theodore Wores, who used it as his studio and gallery until just before his death in 1939, and the interior retains decorative details he added during his ownership. The building was also used by the Red Cross in World War II, and in the 1950s the steeple was removed because of its poor condition.
