The original Lowell Garage, owned by Thurman Moody, stood at the corner of what is now Lincoln Street and McClure Avenue when old Highway 71 ran along Lincoln Street. After the new Highway 71 was located away from the station, the garage moved as well. In 1939, the building was raised, logs were slid under its beams, and it was rolled through field and woods by teams of horses and mules to the east side of the new highway. It remained there until it was demolished in 2004, ending its final years as an auto paint shop. Other owners included Elmo Lassiter and Garland Neil, and Doyle and Tommy Scruggs, with Scruggs probably operating it longer than anyone. The Scruggs family later donated one of the pumps used there for display inside the Lowell Historical Museum, where it has a permanent home.
