During General Rutherford's forced march against the Cherokees in 1776, Mathias Barringer, Lipsicom Adam, Grundt, Haas, Wilson, and another man were massacred on John's River, while Philip Fry alone escaped; Conrad Tippong, one of Lafayette's men, was also honored by a grateful posterity.
