The Benedict House was a Revolutionary War refuge and the home of William Livingston and his family. Livingston was the first elected Governor of New Jersey. The property is recognized by the National Register of Historic Places and the New Jersey Register of Historic Places, and its historic character is protected by the New Jersey Historic Trust.
