On Dec. 25, 1861, part of First Ky. Cav., USA, camped at Webb's Cross Roads to guard stored corn and forage and scout CSA operations. A detachment skirmished with enemy forces here, resulting in one CSA death. Both armies were in the area again in 1863. On June 2, 300 CSA attacked Union pickets and drove them into town. The CSA retired when met by alert USA forces, and one CSA man and weapons were captured.
