Seventy Six Falls, a waterfall on Indian Creek in Clinton County, Kentucky, is now part of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park near Lake Cumberland, and its appearance has been altered by the lake’s impoundment. Before Lake Cumberland, the falls dropped about 84 feet; at normal pool, the visible height is about 38 feet. Popular explanations tying the name to either that height or to 76 small breaks upstream are considered unlikely. The strongest link is to the nearby community of Seventy Six, whose own name has uncertain origins. Once associated with several mills, the falls are now valued chiefly for their scenic significance in the region.
