Benjamin F. Highsmith served in the Army of Texas in 1835-36, was a ranger under Capt. John C. Hays, and was a member of the Somervell Expedition in 1842. He was born in Missouri on Sept. 11, 1817, and died on Nov. 20, 1905. His wife, Elizabeth Turner Highsmith, was born in Missouri on March 22, 1836, and died on Oct. 7, 1900.
