Kolana Rock
Nature
Kolana Rock is a prominent granite dome on the southern edge of Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite National Park, rising about 2,000 feet above Hetch Hetchy Reservoir and facing Hetch Hetchy Dome. John Muir wrote that Kolana was the Indian name for the formation. In recent years, rock climbing on the dome was seasonally closed during peregrine falcon breeding, a restriction lifted in 2013. It remains one of the most striking rock forms and a notable natural landmark in the Hetch Hetchy area.
