North of the Columbia River, a two-story log house hosted the first school session in 1854, served as a refuge during the Indian War of 1855-56, and was occupied by the families of Rev. J.F. Devore in 1853, Abram Woolery in 1854, and Sherwood Bonney from 1854 to 1856.
